Home Renovation Tax Credit
On January 27, 2009 the Federal Government presented Budget 2009, which proposes a temporary Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC).  The government hopes the HRTC will provide meaningful tax relief to help Canadian homeowners make improvements to their property while promoting broad-based economic activity.

Individuals will be able to claim a 15-per-cent non-refundable tax credit for eligible expenditures made in respect of eligible dwellings (generally your principal residence, a house, condominium or co-operative housing unit).  The credit will apply to expenditures in excess of $1,000, but not more than $10,000, resulting in a maximum credit of $1,350 ($9,000 x 15%).

The credit will apply only to the 2009 taxation year and will be based on expenditures for work performed, or goods acquired, after January 27, 2009 and before February 1, 2010.  Eligibility will be family-based - generally meaning one per family unit.  Two or more families that share ownership of an eligible dwelling will each be eligible for their own credit. 

Eligible expenditures include those incurred in relation to a renovation or alteration of an eligible dwelling, and includes the cost of labour and professional services, building materials, fixtures, equipment rentals, and permits.  Ineligible expenditures include the cost of routine repairs and maintenance, expenditures for appliances and audio-visual electronics, and financing costs associated with a renovation.  Any eligible expenditure claimed for the HRTC must be supported by receipts.

Where do I start ?

Choosing new flooring can be a challenging task, but we can help you make the process easier.  Where should you start?  Let's take it one step at a time.

You can preview a large selection of the products we have in our showroom right here on the site.  Go to "Showroom", and then choose Carpet or Tile or Hardwood, and view the extensive Product Gallery.  Our showroom staff will be happy to assist you in finding any of the products you see and are interested in. 

  • Decide on the extent of your project.  Is it a new kitchen floor or backsplash?  Carpet for the family room?  An entirely new bathroom? Hardwood flooring for the dining room?
  • Sketch out your project - a rough drawing is a good starting point - fill in the rough dimensions of the area.
  • A trained estimator may need to schedule a visit to your home to accurately estimate the amount of product required.
  • Bring in your Idea Folder, paint chips, wallpaper samples, counter top sample, upholstery fabric, throw pillow and your imagination.

We can help you choose the right colour carpet, the best type of tile, the perfect tone of hardwood floor, whatever you need.

You can take home a selection of samples to try out in the actual room under renovation.

We can provide written estimates for a variety of products to help make your decision easier.
